At Glenbervie School we have 4 different houses; Ruru (Red), Kea (Green), Weka (Yellow), and Tūī (Blue).
Year 6 House Leaders are appointed at the end of Term 1 of each new year after a process of demonstrating their suitability for the job.
House leaders are responsible for organising house meetings, looking after younger children and being role models for other children in the school.
All children are encouraged to dress in House colours on sports days to be part of their respective House. Students also earn House points when awarded a Values card for demonstrating the School Values. A House shield is awarded to the House with the most points at the end of the year.
At the beginning of each new year, Year 6 students are invited to apply for the role of House Leader. To demonstrate their suitability, applicants organise and lead activities for their House during the first term, showcasing their leadership and organisational skills. Following this, both teachers and students from each House participate in a voting process to select their preferred leaders. The roles and responsibilities of House Leaders include: being positive role models, organising sporting events and House competitions, helping the younger students and consistently demonstrating the school values both inside and outside the classroom. The House Leaders are also required to commit to a community service role within the school. This role will require them to give up some of their free time. Such roles include; librarian, wet day monitor, predator free trapping group, lamb daycare helper, PAL for lunchtime sport, peer mediator, school lunch monitors.
