School Zone

Glenbervie School has an enrolment scheme policy described below.

Purpose:

1) To avoid overcrowding or the likelihood of overcrowding at the school.

2) To enable the Secretary of Education to make reasonable use of the existing network of schools.

Home Zone

All students who live within the home zone, described below, shall be entitled to enrol at the school.

(Proof of residence within the home zone will be required.)

Starting at the north end, the zone travels down Maruata Road, turns east into Ngunguru Road and follows it to (and including) Waipoka Road (Clemo Road included). From the intersection of Waipoka and Ngunguru Roads the zone retraces back to, and along, Ngunguru Ford Road; at the end of which it travels across country to the Hora Hora inlet.

From the south side of the inlet the zone joins Pataua North Road and follows it to the headland (including Aubrey, Hall, Kaye and Te Whangai Head Roads). At the bridge the zone turns around and travels back along Pataua North Road (including Mangahui, Smith and Parkes Road) and turns northwest into Whareora Road. The zone heads 3.7 kilometres up to the top of Mount Tiger Road and then retraces back to Whareora Road, goes south down Abbey Caves Road and, at the intersection with Old Parua Bay Road (not included) the zone turns around and tracks back to Whareora Road.

From the Clapham Road turnoff the zone travels across country northwest to the Hatea stream and follows this north until it rejoins Ngunguru Road, heading northeast past the school and on back to the starting point at Maruata Road.

All residential addresses on both sides of the boundary roads and all no exit roads off included sides of boundary roads, are included in the zone, unless otherwise stated.

Special Programmes

This priority category is not applicable at this school because the school does not run a special programme approved by the Secretary of Education.

Out of Zone Enrolments

Each year the Board will determine the number of places which are likely to be available in the following year for the enrolment of students who live outside the home zone.

This will be notified in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school. The notice will indicate how applications are to be made and will specify a date by which all applications must be received.

Priority is given in the following order to applicants who:

Are a sibling of a current student.
Are a sibling of a former student.
Are the child of a former student.
Are the child of an employee of the school or the child of a member of the Board.
Fifth Priority: will be given to all other applicants.

If there are more applicants in the second, third, fourth or fifth priority groups than there are places available, selection within the priority group will be by a ballot conducted in accordance with instructions issued by the Secretary under Section 11G(1) of the Education Act 1989. Parents will be informed of the date of any ballot by notice in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school.

Applicants seeking second or third-priority status may be required to give proof of sibling relationship.
